Ashley Forrest 2014

Two AVR customers competed at the Ashley Forrest rallysprint recently. Luke McLennan with his Mitsi EVO3 and Peter McLaren with his Subaru WRX RA.

Pete’s weekend did not start too well breaking 2nd gear in the first run. This meant the remainder of Saturday’s runs were lost while a replacement gear box was fitted putting him behind the eight ball for the rest of the weekend to finish 22nd. Luke put in a good drive to finish 12th overall.

Both cars are fitted with Life Racing F88-RLH ecu’s using the closed loop knock control, closed loop lambda control & closed loop launch control provided in the ecu. The protection system provided with the ecu’s use oil pressure, fuel pressure, engine temp, voltage, lean on load lambda, along with knock cylinder shut down. It was also good to be able to use the on board logging at Ashley forest to check all was ok with Lukes fresh install (165 items logged - 30 items for knock control alone at 1000hz burst logging). For these guys 99% of the time the logging will never be needed – but if a problem crops up having every thing logged in great detail helps to quickly nail down what is/isn’t the cause.

Glenn Smith 2013/2014 GTRNZ GT1 Champion

Glenn Smith

Congratulations to Glenn Smith for winning the 2013/2014 GTRNZ GT1 championship in the Crawford DP03 Porsche.

For that season the car was fitted with a 3.6L twin turbo Porsche 6 cylinder which AVR Performance tuned prior to the season.

AVR Performance was back in the Manawatu recently to tune the new engine package ready for next season. The new package involved slightly larger engine capacity along with larger Garrett GT35 turbos recommended & supplied by AVR Performance. The Motec ecu was individual cylinder tuned using a lambda sensor for each cylinder along with one for each bank. The new package delivered a nice improvement.

Craig Corliss Kiwi Racing Team

CC 1CC 2CC 3

AVR Performance was in Sepang Malaysia recently for Kiwi Racing Team which is run by Kiwi driver Craig Corliss based in Thailand.

AVR was there to sort out a running issue with the car which fortunately was quickly solved & then assist the crew for the remainder of the weekend running the car at a round of the Thailand Super Series held at Sepang.

The car is an ex 888 racing Commodore V8 supercar that Craig runs in the Thailand Super Series taking in rounds in Thailand & Malaysia.

Craig put in a good drive over the weekend finishing 2nd in the GTM category in the first race and getting into the lead in the second race only to have a spin relegate him to 2nd place.

AVR RX7 Race car back on the track

The AVR Mazda RX7 FD3 race car has been at Ruapuna recently for its first test day after the wheel tub work to fit a larger tyre/wheel package.

Straight of the trailer it was an easy second a lap quicker even with the driver driving like a rusty goose and finding himself in some very strange parts of the race track. The car now sits patiently waiting the winter out ready for next season to get into some miles.
